EM2 Transmissive optical encoder module

Now with 4 times the resolution: 2000 to 5000 cycles per revolution

US Digital’s new EM2 encoder module offers now 2 or 4 times higher resolution than the well-known EM1 module. It is used to detect the rotary position when used together with code wheels DISK-1 or HUBDISK-1, both with 1 inch diameter. The EM2 consists of a lensed LED source and a monolithic detector IC enclosed in a small polymer package. The EM2 uses phased array detector technology to provide superior performance and greater tolerances over traditional aperture mask type encoders.

The EM2 provides digital A & B quadrature outputs with a third output index channel. Each module is resolution specific and matched to the resolution of a code wheel. The EM2 operates with a single 5V supply and provides single ended outputs which are capable of both sinking and sourcing 5 mA. An internal 0.1 uF decoupling capacitor is designed into the EM2 to provide enhanced noise immunity. It is implemented in US DIGITAL’s most popular encoders, offering 2000 to 5000 CPR. All of them are available now.
