The ES1-AG all-gas sensor:
Indoor air pollution is becoming an increasing problem, because of buildings and houses having a much better insulation. Better insulation saves energy for heating, but on the other hand prevents necessary exchange of air. Exchange of air is important to remove potentially harmful gases coming from cleaning agents, solvents, carpets and flooring and many other sources. For instance, most volatile organic compound (VOC) gases are considered harmful to health even in concentrations in the lower ppm range. And the list of VOC gases contains over 300 different gases. Measurement of the total VOC (TVOC) concentration is one of the best means of controlling the indoor air quality, because it can be coupled to ventilation-on-demand. TVOC measurement however requires high-quality gas sensors with low drift and high sensitivity to VOC gases. Pewatron´s ES1-AG sensor has specifically been developed to measure these VOC gases with high accuracy and to provide a reliable TVOC value.
The ES1-AG gas sensor is an electrochemical VOC sensor with all sensing electrodes and the electrolyte solution being printed on a ceramic carrier substrate by thick-film deposition technology which supports very high volumes. In addition, each ES1-AG sensor is individually calibrated and comes with a calibration protocol. The calibration data can be used and stored in the amplifying electronics, which will make the approval phase and end-calibration for the final product much easier.
The ES1-AG gas sensor shows standard measurement ranges of 0…200 ppm, 0…1000 ppm and 0…2000 ppm. The T10/90 response time is rather short (< 10-12 seconds) and the lowest detectable concentration is in the range of 2-4 ppm depending on the measurement range. Because of the high sensitivity of the ES1-AG gas sensors, the minimum resolution can be as low as 0.1 ppm (depending on the amplifying electronics). The short response time, together with the low detection limit and the minimum resolution make the sensor ideal for ventilation-on-demand applications. The gas sensing device can be mounted close to the ventilation unit for optimal control, but may also be integrated into battery operated remote devices. Battery operation make the position and placement of the gas sensing device fully flexible. Optimal mounting positions can thus be easily sought out and the gas sensing installed accordingly.
